Spectrum Numismatics International

Live Update - Precious Metal Market

Spectrum Numismatics International, Inc.

Founded in February of 1991, Spectrum Numismatics International has grown to become one of the world's largest purchasers and sellers of rare coins, currency and fine wines. Spectrum and its affiliates encompass wholesale, retail, auction, precious metals and financial lending.

Since its founding Spectrum has purchased nearly all of the most famous and desirable "properties" in all of U.S. numismatics. Some of the most important coins we have bought over the years include:

1913 Liberty Nickel, in 1993 Spectrum purchased one of the five-known specimens for $875,000

1804 Draped Bust Silver Dollar, the Eliasberg Specimen

The King of Siam Proof Set, unique, the famous set presented to King Rama III of Siam in the 1830s by United States agents as a gift to establish diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries; King Rama IV later give the set to his English teacher Anna Leonowens, in whose family it remained until sold in London by two of her descendants in the 1950s

1795 Draped Bust Silver Dollar, the Eliasberg Specimen

1884 Trade Dollar, the Eliasberg Specimen, one of just 10 pieces struck

1796 Capped Bust Right Quarter Eagle, No Stars, the first United States Quarter Eagle ($2.50 gold coin) and the only issue that does not display stars around the obverse border

1861 Liberty Double Eagle, A.C. Paquet Reverse, the Norweb Specimen, one of only two examples known

MCMVII (1907) Ultra-High Relief Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, a classic rarity and considered by many to be the most beautiful coin ever struck by the United States Mint

1927-D Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, the Eliasberg Specimen, among the finest known for this very rare issue

Each of these coins is worth considerably more than $1 million in the rare coin market of the early 21st century.

Spectrum also purchased the Wells Fargo Nevada Gold Hoard of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles which was, at that time, the largest financial transaction in the history of numismatics. The firm devised new and innovative ideas to market the coins with a consortium of rare coin retailers, and was primarily responsible for generating a tremendous amount of mainstream press that, in turn, attracted hundreds of new collectors to the hobby. More recently, Spectrum was involved in the disbursement of the treasures excavated from several now-famous shipwrecks, including those of the S.S. Central America and S.S. Republic.

Spectrum Numismatics International is an authorized dealer for Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), and their affiliates.
